Peapod
It was in the humble peapod that a man of god, Gregor Mendel, split open and unraveled the immense secret of heredity. Similarly, early storytellers had seen metaphors of the “infinite” in the small beans that grew Jack's beanstalk, ladder to the heavens. Shielding from harm like a protective mother, these pods ensure safe “delivery” of their emergent seeds. Long a symbol of fertility and new life, peapods represent a new beginning, beacons of hope for greater things to come.
Sculptor Agelio Batle honors some of nature's most exquisite forms in this series of graphite objects. His reverence for organic shapes grew from formal studies in biology and art, but countless hours in the wilderness gave the artist an intimate understanding of nature's geometry. The objects in this series are a testament to that insight.
Batle sees these objects as sculpture, but they are also fully functional drawing tools. All of their surfaces can write!
