Lisa Aronzon
Artist's Statement
My love of glass blowing is only rivaled by my love of drawing and
painting. For me glass blowing is an "Art sport", it combines the
physicality of sport with the aesthetic choices in art.
The figure and the landscape are at the heart of my work. When working
with molten glass on a blowpipe, the figure emerges in my sense of
proportion. Shape metamorphoses from thick to thin, vessel relates to
body. In glass, pure saturated color mixes with luminous light. The
interplay of the color and three-dimensional form poses a lifelong
challenge to me as an artist, and a never-ending quest to master the
centuries old craft of glass blowing.
Aronzon received her MFA in Glass from the California College of Arts
and Crafts in 1992, and a BFA in Painting from California State
University at Northridge in 1980. She is an exhibiting member of the
American Craft Council and the California Contemporary Craft
Association.
