Genie the Weaver

Genie Stewart, an accomplished weaver and irrepressible romanticist, has traveled throughout the world gathering inspirtion and ideas to bring back to the Oregon cuontryside where she lives and weaves.

Her garment shapes have been evolving for the last 15 years. In the early '80s loose and flowing shawls, capes and tunics were her designs of the times. Now there is more tailoring and attention to detail. The initial flare and individuality, however, have not been lost in her work nor upon the women who wear it. They recognize it, collect it, and enjoy it.

Color is her forte. When viewed closely, every piece of her fabric holds a surprise. As with the French impressionists, she places many colors, both harmonious and dissonant, adjacent to one another creating the joie de vivre which sets her work apart.

Her style is sensitive and innovative -- easily recognizable. Thre are quiet, comfortable designs for the daytime, wilder ones for evenings and adventures.

One of the exhilarating aspects of being an artist is perpetually having opportunities to respond tangibily to intersting and wonderful experiences through the creation of something which reflects both those moments and oneself.
