Sylvie Belanger Design and Cassandre Glass Studio

Artist's Statement
Silvie Belanger has been involved in the arts since 1979. She is French Canadian residing in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She and her partner, Diane Ferland, set up the first glass studio in Montreal specializing in glass casting. Cassandre Glass Studio has gained international attention since founding in 1995. This young enterprise offers unique creations, sculptured pieces desinged especially for architectural integration, and objsects produced in limited series.

Glass casting is a very impressive technique practiced since antiquity. The glass, which is melted at 2,225 degrees F. is poured into a mould formed in moist sand. Colours, which are put in the sand beforehand, appear as the glass cools and becomes transparent.

Sylvie has been a sculpture professor at Atelier Oeil Tactile, Montreal; Production Verre; Gallerie Roussil; Centre Culturel de la Ville de Longueuil; and Centre Culturel de la Ville Montreal, and her work can be found in numerous public and private collections throughout Canada. Only recently has she introduced her work in the United States.
